Community Health at Indigo North Health aims to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities within our catchment.
Our emphasis is on health promotion, illness prevention and early intervention.
A range of health professionals provide services at Rutherglen and Chiltern and in people’s homes or workplaces.
Meeting Community Needs
Community health services at Indigo North Health are responsive and flexible, designed to meet the needs of our changing community. We consult and work with the community to identify needs and develop appropriate programs and services. Requests for services and partnerships with other community organizations are encouraged.
Health Education and Promotion
Information and education programs on a wide range of health topics are provided by Community Health staff members. Topics include Sunsmart, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, health coaching, falls prevention, healthy diet, ageing and other life stages such as puberty and menopause.
Sessions can be delivered in workplaces, schools, in conjunction with other community groups or at Indigo North Health. Details of upcoming health promotion activities are available on the Indigo North Health website, at either of the Indigo North Health campus’s and are published in local newspapers. We welcome suggestions for new health promotion activities.
Chronic Disease Management
Assistance for those who are living with a chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis or heart disease through lifestyle management is provided on an individual or group basis.
An equipment loan program is available for people recovering from a range of physical ailments.
Counselling and case management service for individuals, couples, parents and families.
Podiatric services offer a range of benefits for a variety of community groups. Podiatrists have an important role to play in maintaining individual mobility and independence by alleviating painful foot conditions, particularly for those aged over 65 although service is provided to all ages. Persons who have been diagnosed with diabetes are recommended to have an annual Podiatry check-up.
Home Based Nursing
District Nursing at Indigo North Health
Indigo North District Nursing Service (DNS) works as primary care managers for residents of Wahgunyah, Rutherglen, Chiltern and Barnawartha and surrounding areas. Nursing services are offered to anyone requiring home based nursing care. This includes the young, people with disabilities and the frail aged. DNS are able to liaise with a range of other health care service providers and community agencies to ensure your needs are being met.
